Channel Your Inner Cheerleader

When you depend on people to build you up they’ll have the same power to break you down. You don’t need their validation to know your worth.

We often seek encouragement from others. We cannot be proud of what we do until someone else tells us how remarkable it is. We cannot admit our unbelievable strength until someone tells us we are strong. We wait to celebrate our life until one celebrates it first for us. We cannot admit our unique beauty until someone else notices it first. But it is not up to other people to encourage you. Encouragement should come from the inside. Instead of waiting for a compliment to feel beautiful, compliment yourself. Instead of holding out for someone to notice the steps you are making towards a goal, notice it yourself. Instead of hoping that someone will give you praise for all that you do and overcome, praise yourself. Instead of waiting for someone to love you, love yourself. Instead of holding out for someone to give you a reason to smile at yourself in the mirror, you be that reason. Instead of hoping someone will inspire you to make a change, you be that change. All that you can be, your strength, your hope, comes from within you. Nobody can create it for you. You are your greatest source of empowerment. You hold the power to validate your decisions, who you are, what you do. Seek it from within. Stop looking externally for what already exists in your heart. If their words could so easily build you up, chances are they can just as quickly break you down. That encouragement will soon fade from others, but when brought out from within you, it can last forever.
