Don't Wait Until It Is Gone
Even in the most trying times, it is important to speak gratitude. It is in the times of suffering and pain that we recoil from expressing our thankfulness. We lose sight of what actually is going GOOD in our lives. We focus on what we do not have. It is through my darkest moments that I realized how truly blessed I am and all that I have. I took advantage of it all when everything was going right. I didn’t fully appreciate what I had because it was always there, it was expected, it was still going to be there when I woke up. But when things start to slowly drift away or get pulled from under you or you sacrifice for the sake of what you fear letting go as they did when in the midst of the disorder, you learn to value more what is left. You start to see everything from a different, more gracious perspective. It took me meeting death to appreciate every breath. It took me losing use of my legs temporarily to appreciate the way they carried me. It took me losing a dear friend to fully value what a true relationship is. I now no longer wait until things are gone to appreciate them. I continuously speak gratitude into all things in my life, the good and the bad. And the bad moments just reiterate the need to be thankful. So today, take time to express your thankfulness. Regardless of the direction your day has taken, there is ALWAYS something for which to be grateful.
